Richard Eichler, vice chairman and CEO, Hart Energy Publishing

Business Services, Finalist
From his start with Hart Energy Publishing as an advertising salesman, current Vice Chairman and CEO Richard Eichler had dedicated 28 years to doing whatever it takes to grow the company and turn it into the “go-to” provider for the global energy sector.
With a tripled workforce and quadrupled sales under Eichler’s leadership, Houston-based Hart Energy has certainly benefited from his efforts as one of the world’s largest energy industry publishers.
In 2004, Eichler took his biggest step on behalf of the business by conceptualizing and leading the management buyout of the company from its previous investors — giving him and his team the freedom to think more creatively and diversify.
Eichler has expanded Hart Energy’s consulting and publishing services to include online products, such as databases and maps; subscription services, including websites and market data; and a growing conference/exhibition business, with clients in energy, finance and investments, engineering and automotive industries, utilities, NGOs, and major governments.
One example of Eichler’s intuition and initiative in keeping Hart Energy on top of its industry was the creation of the DUG Eagle Ford Conference Exhibition in 2010. After hearing in passing that the Eagle Ford shale was hot, he decided to launch an event — and had it planned that very afternoon. Today, the conference is the largest shale event in the world and is expected to attract about 17,000 attendees this year.
But Eichler doesn’t just apply his leadership and creative thinking skills at Hart Energy — he uses them to advance his community. He is a current or past director of the American Heart Association, Northwest Houston Chapter; Energy Cup Foundation; Petroleum Club of Houston; Spindletop Oilfield Charities; and Western Energy Alliance, among others.
