As a practicing physical therapist right out of college, Arnold Burchianti II, Celtic Healthcare founder, president and CEO, noticed a stark disconnect between the various disciplines of health care providers that were caring for a patient. Nurses were not communicating their patients’ needs to physical therapists and physical therapists were not communicating with occupational therapists and so on. As a result, patients were not receiving top-notch attention and services.
Burchianti was taught that integrated health care was the key to quality care, and he immediately understood the need for an organization that practiced this vital concept.
In 1996, he combined his passion for health care and technology and founded Celtic Healthcare, a home health care and hospice patient care provider.
Burchianti formulated a mission of innovative health care at home and partnered with hospitals by acquiring their home health care divisions, as well as other home care agencies that couldn’t compete with health care reform reimbursement reductions and changes.
In 2006, the company put this mission into motion through its first acquisition of the home care division of Carlisle Regional Medical Center in Carlisle, Pa. Celtic has since continued its acquisition strategy with other health systems. This strategic growth has led Celtic Healthcare to rank in the top of Pittsburgh’s 100 fastest-growing companies every year since 2007.
Burchianti has successfully led the company through significant periods of growth and continues to expand the Celtic footprint through strategic acquisitions and expanded services.
