When many physicians saw selling their practices as the best way to preserve them, Patrick Hampson saw an opportunity to use technology and his industry expertise to give them another option.

Founded in 1987 by Hampson, now its chairman and CEO, MED3000 Inc. provides services to 7,000 physicians in nine states, managing more than 1,000 employees.

Hampson’s experience in listening to and working with physicians and his strong relationships with leading information technology providers have enabled MED3000 to grow into the largest privately held company of its kind in the U.S.

MED3000 offers physician practices management expertise but allows the physicians to retain ownership, leaving the medical aspect to the doctors while MED3000 handles the business and technology side. Rather than purchase medical practices, MED3000 focuses on improvement of their operations through physician leadership, use of data, and understanding of the hospital and health system perspective. By providing full practice management support in the areas of billing and revenue-cycle management, human resources, finances, and administration, MED3000 helps physicians to improve clinical outcomes and financial performance.

Hampson’s approach to management differs from what most health care consultants offer physician practices; he has insisted on hiring operators with hands-on experience in managing practices rather than practice management or IT consultants.

Dedicated to continuous improvement in the health care management field, Hampson formed the MED3000 National Data Task Force in 2006, a multidiscipli-nary group of leaders from all aspects of the health care industry. The group is designed to identify strategies, processes and technologies for improving the quality and cost-effectiveness of health care.
