How Marous Brothers Construction creates new opportunities for people

Marous Brothers Construction Inc. not
only builds structures for people and
organizations, but it also builds better lives
for people throughout Northeast Ohio.
Employees at the Willoughby-based construction company, headed by President
Adelbert Marous Jr., use their talents and
tools to give back to the community
through many construction-related activities. The company has sponsored five participants over the past two years in the
Cuyahoga
Metropolitan Housing
Authority’s Youthbuild Program, which
educates high-risk youth about the housing
construction trade. Participants construct
and rehabilitate housing for low-income
families or homeless people.
The company is also getting younger children interested in the construction trade
through the National Association of Women
in Construction Cleveland chapter’s Block
Kids Building Program. Participants are
asked to build a structure following certain
guidelines using the materials provided, including Legos, string, aluminum foil and
paper. Several Marous employees served as
judges for the contest.
In April, employees took time out of their
busy weekends to help community members in need through Rebuilding Together’s
National Rebuild Day. Working with volunteers from two other organizations,
employees completed extensive rehabilitation work on the home of an area disabled
Vietnam veteran and his disabled wife.
The company was also able to use its
construction talents to help construct a
new playhouse at Broadmoor School in
Mentor for children with mental and physical handicaps. The company provided
project management services, materials
and labor at no cost to the school.
Marous Brothers has not only provided
assistance to people but is also helping
strengthen the community. More than 200
residents were employed on job sites for
five of the company’s most recent larger
projects through the Participating Area Residents program. More than 100 of those
residents have been directly employed by the
company and placed into a skilled trade.
Giving back at Marous isn’t just inclusive of
construction-related activities. The company
adopted a local family last December and
was able to provide a better holiday through
donations of gifts and food. When an employee’s home was destroyed by a fire in 2007, the
company stepped in and raised more than
$1,500 for the employee and his family.
