Breaking the mold
Just a note of congratulations to you for running the piece about Cecilia Sveda in the current SBN (May 2001).
I think too often the focus in business circles is on companies that build factories or offices, hire lots of employees, etc. -- companies, in short, that follow the traditional business model. In reality, the backbone of every community is the smaller entities -- the mom and pop stores, the small restaurants, the dry cleaners, etc. And today, with the explosion of entrepreneurial growth, businesses like Cecilia's (and mine) are becoming much more the norm.
I think it's taken the media quite a while to recognize and celebrate the fact that huge growth is not always a business's goal -- nor does it need to be. It is so refreshing to have SBN recognize that a business does not have to be in that traditional "growth" model to be successful.
Cecilia is a very talented designer who has created my corporate logo and that of many others. Though she is quiet and modest, she is a big success -- according to her personal measurement of success, which is the one that counts. Bravo to her ... and to SBN!

I could not wait any longer to tell you about how important your publication has been in building my business, Diversified Concepts Marketing Inc.
Because of the advice your magazine has offered, we have experienced a phenomenal growth rate of 980 percent! This figure is almost unheard of in the advertising and marketing business today. Diversified Concepts services clients such as Warner Brothers Domestic & International, Philip Morris, Brown & Williamson Tobacco, Goodyear, The Dana Corp., Porter Cable, Stanley Tools and more.
I did not study business in college but have a true entrepreneurial spirit. As you know, spirit is not always enough, so I learn about the fundamentals where I can.
SBN is definitely my guide. Thanks for taking care of and inspiring the small business owner. I look forward to your next issue.
