When Ed Dunlap and his wife, Anna, took over the storied LeMont restaurant on Mount Washington in 1999, they paid $3 million for it and put another $2 million into renovations.
That's quite a contrast to Dunlap's primary business, Centimark Corp., one of the top commercial roofing companies in the industry with 75 offices nationwide, 2,300 employees and $241 million in sales in 2000. In 1967, when he launched the business that became Centimark, he did it out of his basement. Its first year revenue: $98,500.
The LeMont isn't Dunlap's only foray into the restaurant industry. He owns LeMont Palm Beaches in West Palm Beach, Fla., Molly's Irish Pub in McMurray, The Colony in Scott Township -- another landmark restaurant currently undergoing renovation -- and will open the Roasted Pepper in Robinson Township in April.
