It’s good to think outside of the box, and that’s what Ganeden Labs is trying to do. Ganeden Labs is the licensing and development division of Ganeden Biotech Inc., a science-driven company led by President and CEO Andrew Lefkowitz, that brings superior probiotics to markets that are unmet by traditional solutions.

Ganeden Labs’ mission is to identify applications for Ganeden’s various technologies and license out the applicable technology to companies throughout the world. Ganeden Labs has thus far launched these technologies into the food, beverage and nutraceutical industries.

Ganeden’s core technologies revolve around GanedenBC30 , a patented strain of spore-forming, probiotic bacteria. Due to the spore-forming nature of the strain, it has the ability to survive through both high and low temperatures, high pressure and sheer, and a variety of pH ranges and water activities.

The strain has been shown in clinical trials to improve digestion of carbohydrates, proteins and fats, help reduce the symptoms of functional bowel diseases such as irritable bowel syndrome, and reduce gas and bloating. In addition, since digestive health is closely related to immune health, there is good evidence that the Ganeden BC30 may help boost the immune system, as well.

Therefore, because of the increased knowledge the public has about the benefits healthy bacteria have on our bodies, the market for functional foods, beverages and supplements is growing at a phenomenal rate. Ganeden is seeing an increase of companies showing interest in formulating their existing products with probiotics.

Since it began licensing the strain, a large number of companies in the food, beverage and supplement markets have formulated products in a variety of applications, including muffins, nutrition bars, heated products such as soup, coffee, tea and oatmeal, as well refrigerated and frozen products such as frozen yogurt and traditional dairy applications. Starting in 2008, Ganeden Labs helped its licensing partners launch a range of food products that promotes the benefits of the strain. Ganeden Labs has played a major role in the growth of Ganeden Biotech as a whole and has made it possible to reach companies and consumers worldwide that would have been otherwise impossible.
