A 42-foot satire in motion — Sculpture marks 20th year in Cleveland as a slice of wry

It was the 1990s and with Mayor Michael R. White at the helm of Cleveland, politics took a front seat. It may have seemed like a good time for artist Billie Lawless to build a 42-foot kinetic sculpture he titled “The Politician: A Toy.” And now 20 years later, with Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton, politics are as hot as ever.
An enormous representation of a child’s pull toy, the sculpture offers a satirical view of politicians.
In this month’s Uniquely Cleveland, The Politician takes center stage.
