Built tough

To combat the tough economy over the past few years, Joel Pizzuti didn’t sit still at The Pizzuti Companies, a real estate services company.

“We cut costs, restructured 100 percent of our expiring debt and focused on public/private partnerships, fee-based consulting as well as specific niche developments with our best partners,” Pizzuti says.
But while Pizzuti was focused on figuring out how to survive, revive and thrive through it, he didn’t forget about his team and enhancing their experience as well.
Pizzuti was named one of 2010 Smart Leader honorees by Smart Business and Blue Technologies. We asked him about how he innovates and gives back to the community.
In what ways are you an innovative leader, and how does your organization employ innovation to be on the leading edge?

We try to create a unique environment that addresses the needs of our associates while making certain that we are focused on staying up to date with the latest technology and business practices. Each of our associates is integral to this process. They participate at all levels with a focus on strategies to streamline the pre-development, development and reporting processes,  generate new business opportunities and make sustainability a consistent part of all of our projects.
