Edward Howard & Co. received the highest award in government relations from the Ohio Society of Association Executives for its work on behalf of the Ohio Association of County Boards of Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities. It received an Achievement Award for its grassroots campaign, “Now it’s their turn.”
Babbage Simmel, a Columbus-based information technology consulting and education services firm, was recognized as the Affiliate of the Year by Boston University for its Day Project Management Program. Babbage Simmel, one of 21 national affiliates, was the first recipient of the award.
RMD Advertising received two national awards from the Association for Women in Communications. The agency team received the Clarion Awards for brand building work in the categories of “Marketing Communications Campaign for New Product/Service” and “Radio Commercials.” The honors were the only two awarded to a Central Ohio agency in 2002.
Wiles, Boyle, Burkholder & Bringardner will relocate to the Arena District, 300 Spruce St., in early 2003. The 300 Spruce Street project is also the headquarters of architectural firm Moody Nolan.
Bob Webb Inc., a family-owned home construction company, received the 2002 Consumers’ Choice Award in the category of Home Builders. Winners are determined through a survey by an independent research firm and are based solely on consumers’ choices for business excellence. Moody Nolan received a Consumers’ Choice Award in the category of Architectural Firms.
The United States Professional Volleyball League has awarded Columbus one of four expansion teams in the Chicago-based women’s professional indoor volleyball league. Dallas, Milwaukee and Philadelphia were also awarded teams. The league begins its season in January.
Transitions
Former assistant Ohio Attorney General Robert J. Karl has joined the office of Ulmer & Berne LLP, an Ohio-based firm with offices in Cleveland, Columbus, Cincinnati and Chicago. Karl will head the environmental law practice.
Timothy T. O’Dell, Nancy Petro and Ann Wolfe were appointed to the Ohio State University Hospitals board for three-year terms. O’Dell is president and CEO of Fifth Third Bank, Central Ohio. Petro is president of Digital Scout and Wolfe is immediate past chair of the board of Children’s Hospital.
Michael Myers was hired as project manager for Sullivan Bruck Architects. Myers will oversee project budgets as well as provide design services.
Core Materials Corp. has moved Kevin L. Barnett to the newly created position of vice president-Columbus operations. Formerly, Burnett was vice president and chief financial officer. Herman F. Dick will serve as treasurer and chief financial officer and Todd Mroczkowski was named controller.
Mark Pomeroy, formerly with Bricker & Eckler, has been hired by Bank One to serve as senior counsel supporting the management of the bank’s information technology and e-commerce activities.
Jennifer Feucht was hired as marketing director for Conrad, Phillips & Vutech, a Columbus-based advertising and marketing firm. Feucht was previously an account manager and marketing services director for NBC 4 WCMH-TV.
Heartland Bank of Gahanna named Teri Meister assistant vice president and manager of the Dublin office. Meister has 12 years of banking experience.
