Blue Diesel, an interactive marketing company, was honored by the Columbus Society of Communicating Arts with Creative Bests for two entries — its carousel trade show booth developed for Xigris, a prescription drug for the treatment of sepsis; and a CD-ROM created for the 2001 CSCA Creative Best Awards Show.

Bank One’s senior vice president of human resources and head of national staffing Ernie Sullivan was appointed to the Executive Leadership Council, headquartered in Washington, D.C. The ELC is dedicated to the development of corporate leaders among the African American community.

Susan D. Rector, chair of Schottenstein Zox & Dunn’s corporate practice area, was appointed president of the Columbus Bar Foundation. The foundation promotes access for justice, understanding, respect for the law and improvements in the administration of justice in Central Ohio.

Lord, Sullivan & Yoder Public Relations received six regional awards from the East Central District of the Public Relations Society of America. Among other campaigns, LSY was recognized for its “Papa John’s Path to Pizza Rewards” and Kellogg’s Hannah Neil World of Children event.

Karlsberger Companies, central Ohio’s second largest architecture firm, was recognized with an American Architecture Award for its design of the Carl B. Stokes Federal Courthouse/Office Building in Cleveland. The design was selected from several hundred submissions.

The Building Industry Association of Central Ohio honored Columbus Mayor Michael Coleman as its Citizen of the Year. Mayor Coleman was recognized for his efforts in revitalizing housing in Columbus and establishing the Columbus Housing Trust Fund.

Jeff Brown joined Huntington Bancshares Inc. as senior vice president and manager of consumer deposits and fee income. He was most recently with US Bancorp in Cincinnati.

Kendra L. Carpenter, an associate with Vorys, Sater, Seymour and Pease LLP, was elected to the board of trustees of the Central Ohio Chapter of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Carpenter is a litigation attorney.

The law firm of Chester, Willcox & Saxbe LLP has moved to 65 E. State St., Suite 1000. The firm will occupy the 10th floor and a majority of the ninth floor of the Capitol Square Office Building. The firm’s practice areas include litigation and appeals, associations, bankruptcy, business and corporate law.

Port Columbus International Airport received one first place and two other awards at the Airports Council International — North America 2002 Excellence in Marketing and Communications Awards Contest. Competing against 63 commercial airports, Port Columbus was honored for its “It Feels Good to Fly Again” campaign.

The Web Marketing Association recognized the Web site of law firm Buckingham, Doolittle & Burroughs LLP with an Outstanding Web Site Award. The site was improved in 2000, adding an internal search engine, How to Reach Us, Community, Legal Links, Articles, Free Publications and other features.

Stephen J. Smith was elected the 2002-2003 Sixth Circuit regional vice president of the International Municipal Lawyers Association. He is a principal at Schottenstein Zox & Dunn, where he manages the public law practice.

Dr. Charis Eng, a clinical cancer geneticist at The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center, won the designation of Doris Duke Distinguished Clinical Scientist. Eng will receive a grant of $1.5 million over five years.

Ohio is listed among the nation’s best states when it comes to developing new applications for the Internet, according to CIO Magazine. The CIO-100 awards singled out the state’s main Web portal and Ohio Business Gateway as examples of innovative integration.
