Columbus Pillar event focuses on philanthropy

On Jan. 21, 2010, Smart Business and Medical Mutual presented the 2010 Pillar Award for Community Service to a well-deserving group of honorees. The evening’s event not only recognized corporate philanthropy in many forms but also helped raise money to aid charitable organizations around the region.

During the event, Smart Business sat down with several of the award winners for a video interview about what philanthropy means to their organization.

Debra Penzone, president of Charles Penzone Family of Salons, discussed why her company feels it’s important to give back to the community.

Michelle M. Mills, president and CEO of St. Stephen’s Community House, discussed what philanthropy means to her.  

Charles W. Gehring, president and CEO of LifeCare Alliance, spoke about how to build the spirit of charity in others.

Ira Sharfin, president and CEO of Continental Office Environments, talked about how important it is to be connected to your local community through charity work.

Mervin Dunn, president and CEO of Commercial Vehicle Group Inc., shared how it’s more important to share time than money.

Tim Colburn, the CEO of Berger Health System, talked about what philanthropy means to his organization.
