Doing whatever it takes

Do the right thing, even when it’s the hard thing.

That’s been Victoria Tifft’s motto since she launched Clinical
Research Management Inc., and it’s a key reason why the clinical
research organization has thrived since its inception more than a
decade ago.

Tifft, the company’s founder, president and CEO, has made it her
life’s work to provide treatments for infectious diseases. She supports
a culture of open, honest communication where employees listen to
each other and work together to meet the company’s goals.

When employees advance in the company from scientific research
to management, Tifft provides a coach to assist with the transition.
She also hosts company gatherings to promote and develop socialization as well as to reward employees for quality work.

Tifft’s passion for infectious disease control stems from her time
with the U.S. Peace Corps in Togo, West Africa. She saw the devastating conditions of Third World countries and even contracted
malaria several times.

She has worked alongside many military and government
researchers to gain knowledge about the fight against infectious
diseases and has passed this along to her employees at CRM.

To avoid becoming too reliant on government projects, Tifft created
M3 Clinical Research to specialize in commercial projects. M3 Clinical
provides management and regulatory services to clients developing
medical products for release in the marketplace.

Tifft’s social responsibility extends beyond curing the ills of
humanity, however. Her companies have created a robotics program to help gifted children who need more stimulation and challenges. She also coordinates summer internship programs where
local companies hire high school juniors and seniors to actively
participate in live client projects.

Tifft does not think of the financial success of her companies as
her most rewarding accomplishment. Rather, she is most proud of
the ability of her business to provide valuable employment to
those who have worked both with her and for her.
