The University of Pittsburgh Small Business Development Center is offering a free seminar, The Mechanics of Starting a Small Business, Sept. 13 from 7:45 to 10 a.m. in the Masonic Temple on Pitt’s main campus. The program also will be held Sept. 14 from 7:45 to 10 a.m. at Washington Federal, Washington, Pa. Building Your Sales Machine will be offered Sept. 19. Call for time and requirements for enrollment. The Service Corp. of Retired Executives (SCORE) offers a prebusiness workshop each month to help start-up businesses, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., with registration beginning at 7:30 a.m. Cost of the workshop, held at the Library Center of Point Park College and the Carnegie Library, downtown, is $60 with advance registration, $65 at the door. Group registration allows additional members of a group to pay a discounted rate of $40 each. SCORE is a nonprofit association of retired business executives who volunteer their time and experiences to providing free and confidential counseling to small businesses.
