While the economic downturn has proven grueling for many companies, Cohen & Co. Ltd. has maintained steady growth by focusing on services that have made the CPA firm a niche player.
In recent years, the regional accounting firm, which works with entrepreneurs and private companies to help them reach financial and strategic goals, has incorporated new service offerings that center on building national businesses and models to bring revenue to the local economy. Expanding its services has allowed Cohen & Co. to significantly grow in the national market in several niche groups.
Under the leadership of President and CEO Randy Myeroff, the firm created Cohen Fund Audit Services Ltd. to be a leading provider of audit and tax services for mutual funds, hedge funds and investment partnerships. Starting with just four people in 2004, the fund audit services business has grown to 31 employees and has increased its revenue despite the recession. Cohen & Co. has seen significant revenue from national accounts that boosts the local economy and has created new jobs for the community.
A second area of focus has been on Raintree Capital Partners LLC, a middle-market investment banking firm that provides services on a national scale. Headquartered in Ohio and facilitating transactions in the state, Raintree allows Cohen & Co. to solicit help from local law firms, accounting firms and other advisers. It provides the local economy with an added source of revenue from national markets.
Cohen & Co.’s third strategic focus is on CohenFlorida. The expansion into Florida has resulted in the merger of three firms that provide personalized service to individuals and small to medium-sized businesses. CohenFlorida has created jobs, circulated new accounts and provided the local economy with a gateway to Florida.
The firm’s focus in recent years has kept it on a continuous path of growth. Cohen & Co. has increased sales by $10.44 million and added 85 employees in the last four years.
Myeroff now oversees a staff of 228 spread throughout eight offices in Ohio and Florida.
As the firm has grown, so has its contribution to its communities. Cohen & Co. associates support more than 300 local organizations by volunteering time and donating money.
