The company owns and manages Hoosier
Park Racing & Casino in Anderson, Ind., and
Fortune Valley Hotel & Casino in Central
City, Colo. The company is also seeking final
approval to develop Valley View Downs in
western Pennsylvania.
All these accomplishments started
with just a dream. The genesis of
Roderick Ratcliff’s venture came
while he was working for the Chicago
Board of Trade. During his commute
on the train, he noticed an off-track
betting parlor, and he knew he could
strike gold with this concept. In those
days, he was long on ideas, but short
on cash. He turned to his Hoosier
roots to raise the resources needed to
fuel his dream, reaching out to farmers and agricultural leaders he met in
Tippecanoe County during his days in
the seed business.
He has deep respect for the horse
industry and is proud of his efforts to
support horsemen and their breeding
and racing business. He understood
that with the addition of Hoosier Park,
the entire horse-racing industry would
benefit. In an industry as highly regulated as the gaming industry, Ratcliff
understands better than most the
expectations and work ethic required
