Kent State online

Employers in a number of industries already benefit from hiring graduates of Kent State University’s associate of applied science degree in electrical/electronic engineering technology.

This degree teaches students to design, develop, test, supervise and repair equipment in the electrical/electronic field. Students study digital and electronic systems, robotics and microsystems.

This degree will be offered entirely online beginning this fall. Kamal Bichara at the Kent State Tuscarawas campus has been instrumental in implementing online delivery of the program.

He wanted to make it more accessible to working adults who need to complete a degree or retool to meet the changing demands of today’s workplace.

Bichara took a no-compromise approach to adapting the courses for online delivery. First, he tested four of the online courses against in-person classes to ensure quality instruction. He was careful to make sure that online learning students have the same lab equipment, tools and instruments as n-site students by creating lab packs that can be purchased and used at home for lab assignments.

As a result, Bichara found no statistical difference between the performance of in-person and online students.

The online degree program is available beginning this fall. Increasing access to this degree will help busy, working adults develop the high-demand skills that area companies need.
