When Putman Properties Inc. won a statewide sales award for exceeding $5 million, President Timothy Putman and Vice President Wick Hartung were understandably pleased. Both say, however, sales is only part of their mission.
Putman started the commercial, industrial, residential and property-management company in 1985. Hartung joined a year later when the company added a brokerage service. The company now employs eight licensed real estate agents.
“We don’t just take a client’s money and go,” Putman says. “We believe in participating in the community, giving back in terms of helping out with different community organizations like the chamber, the United Way and the [Football] Hall of Fame.
“That’s how you build a reputation. Get out in the community, meet people and build the reputation of being the guys in town who make the town function.”
Hartung says involvement helps build a sense of community.
“Canton is unique from the standpoint of volunteerism,” Hartung says. “I think the Hall of Fame is what got it going some 35 years ago.”
