Media Advocate of the Year

Catherine Nolte is intimately familiar with the subject matter she writes about as associate editor of the Butler-Warren Business Journal. After all, she’s been an entrepreneur herself.

Two years ago, Nolte founded a monthly news publication called Business Inc designed to provide in-depth coverage of the companies and economic trends in Warren County, the second-fastest growing county in Ohio at the time. Apparently she hit on a lucrative niche, for within a year, Thomson Publications bought her fledgling newspaper and merged it into a twice-monthly business publication covering both Warren and Butler counties.

Nolte, who spent 16 years in journalism and nine years in public relations before starting Business Inc, was nominated for the SBA’s media advocate award by Rodney Smith, manager of the SBA’s 504 loan program for the Certified Development Corp. of Warren County.

“Cathy has been, and continues to be, a tremendous proponent of everything that small business and entrepreneurship is about,” Smith says in his nomination letter.

Nolte is a member of the Society of American Business Editors and Writers and the Society for Public Relations Specialists. She previously served on the board of directors for the Springboro Area Chamber of Commerce.
