Equifax Senior Vice President Paul Springman was named to the new position of chief marketing officer. His role is to oversee a strategic process to anticipate emerging customer needs, identify innovative products and services to meet those needs, and then to bring those new products and services to the market expeditiously. Rodolfo O. Ploder was named group executive for Latin America. Ploder most recently led Latin American operations for MCI. Steve Ely joined Equifax as senior vice president, product development. Ely, formerly of S1 Corp., has more than 25 years of experience in technology product marketing positions.
OGLETHORPE POWER CORP.
Benny W. Denham was re-elected chairman of the Oglethorpe Power Corp. board of directors. J. Sam L. Rabun was re-elected vice chairman.
Denham, a member of the Irwin Electric Membership Corp. board, represents the Southwest Georgia region on the 13-member Oglethorpe Power Board. Rabun, a member of the Jefferson Energy board, is the Central Georgia region member director.
AIRTRAN AIRWAYS
Stan Whitehead joined AirTran Airways, a subsidiary of AirTran Holdings Inc., as Atlanta station director. In this newly created position, Whitehead is responsible for the Atlanta station operation for AirTran Airways.
Whitehead brings more than three decades of airline experience to AirTran Airways. In his 33 years at Delta Air Lines, he held numerous positions in customer service, operations, ramp service and human resources. He most recently served as corporate director of customer services for Delta Air Lines, where he was responsible for all customer service-related activities at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport.
DELTA AIRLINES
Former Atlanta Mayor Andrew Young is retiring from the board of Delta Air Lines Inc. Young has been a director of the Atlanta-based airline since 1994. he has been chairman and a senior partner of GoodWorks International Inc. since January 1997.
SOUTHERN CO.
Southern Co. appointed Chris Hobson to the newly created position of senior vice president, environmental affairs. Hobson, 52, currently serves as vice president, environmental affairs, at Georgia Power, Southern Co.’s largest subsidiary.
Hobson will report to Charles Goodman, who was named senior vice president, environmental policy and research.
Hobson joined Georgia Power in 1973. He has held a number of positions, including manager of environmental laboratory and manager of licensing and compliance. He served in Southern Co.’s Washington, D.C., office as manager of agency affairs.
H.B. MAYNARD AND CO. INC.
Doug Rabeneck, business development manager for H.B. Maynard and Co. Inc., was elected regional vice president of the Institute of Industrial. He will be part of the Networking Leadership. Prior to his role at Maynard, he was preload supervisor at UPS and a military intelligence analyst for the United States Army.
Powell, Goldstein, Frazer & Murphy
Sally Weaver, chief professional development officer at Goldstein, Frazer & Murphy, was named CEO of The Atlanta Women’s Foundation.
Weaver also has served as associate professor at the University of Montana School of Law as well as vice president and general counsel for Goody’s Family Clothing Inc.
Stoffel named to UPS management committee
Bob Stoffel, who helped lead the development of UPS’ global supply chain capabilities, was promoted to the company’s management committee to succeed the retiring Joe Pyne as senior vice president for the Supply Chain Group.
Pyne has served as UPS’ senior vice president for the Supply Chain Group since 1999 and before that, served three years as UPS senior vice president for marketing. He is retiring after almost 35 years of service.
Stoffel is the head of UPS Supply Chain Solutions, the largest of the four business units that comprise the Supply Chain Group of UPS’ nonpackage companies. He oversaw the integration of 16 acquired companies that were added in recent years to UPS Supply Chain Solutions, and also led the unit to profitability.
The Supply Chain Group that Stoffel will lead — with 2003 revenue exceeding $2 billion — is made up of UPS Supply Chain Solutions; UPS Capital Corp., the company’s financial arm; UPS Consulting, and UPS Mail Innovations.
