Mannen names Aventor
president and CEO
Baker & Daniels health advocacy and medical technology consulting affiliate Aventor named Ted Mannen president and CEO.
Described by the American Bar Association Journal as one of a “new breed of lawyer-lobbyist,” Mannen has led Aventor’s health care reimbursement consulting group since June 2001. As president and CEO, he will direct an experienced team of senior executives.
“Ted is a proven leader whose new role is great news for Aventor and Baker & Daniels,” says Brian Burke, Baker & Daniels managing partner. “I know that he will heighten Aventor’s success, helping to drive the results we provide medical technology clients.”

Headquartered in Washington, D.C., Aventor has consulted with leading medical technology companies and health industry trade associations. Mannen’s nearly 30 years of experience includes serving as a lawyer for the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives, as well as in senior management positions at the Health Industry Manufacturers Association, the international trade association. During his 18 years at HIMA, his positions included general counsel; senior vice president, government affairs; senior vice president, policy and communications; and executive vice president, health care systems.
TITLE FIRST AGENCY INC.
Title First Agency Inc., a title insurance and real estate information company with offices throughout Ohio, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan and West Virginia, appointed Susan Bond as vice president, commercial division for the Indiana region. She will focus on commercial sales and management efforts in Indiana, providing increased legal and complex transaction management expertise to the region.
Bond’s appointment is part of Title First’s recently announced plan to expand its commercial division to better support key clients and grow its customer base.
Bond joins Title First with more than 10 years legal experience as an attorney, with a concentration in real estate law for the past eight years. Prior to joining Title First, she was employed with Duke Realty Corp. as corporate attorney, where she managed all company properties in Columbus and Minneapolis.
She earned her bachelor’s degree from DePauw University and her law degree from the Indiana University School of Law. She is a member of the Indianapolis Bar Association.
BSA LIFESTRUCTURES
Architects Geoffrey Lisle and Henry Stellema were named principals at BSA LifeStructures, Indiana’s largest full-service architecture and engineering firm.
Lisle, a registered architect, specializes in designing higher education buildings and is working on the design of Purdue University’s biomedical engineering building. With more than 20 years of experience in architecture, Lisle began working at BSA LifeStructures in 1999. He is certified by the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards.
Stellema, also a registered architect, is a project coordinator at BSA LifeStructures, specializing in medical and biotech facilities. He began working at BSA LifeStructures in 1986. He’s a member of the Indianapolis chapter of The Construction Specification Institute, where he was the former president and a board member.

The company also promoted six people to associate principal at its Indianapolis headquarters. They are engineers Jeff Bischoff, Peter Langowski and Peter Schilling, architects Andy Lane and Gary Vance, and CPA Kerry Dunn.
HILLENBRAND INDUSTRIES
Hillenbrand Industries Inc. named Larry Baker vice president, corporate tax. Baker is responsible for leading and directing a value-added tax function within Hillenbrand that involves proactive and strategic tax planning, management of the corporate effective tax rate and tax reporting.
Scott Sorensen, vice president and chief financial officer, says, “Larry’s proven leadership capabilities and breadth of tax and financial related experience, including mergers and acquisitions, corporate reorganizations and international tax matters, ensure that he will have a demonstrable effect in crafting and implementing our tax strategies in the future. We look forward to his contributions as we execute our long-term goal of increasing revenues, earnings and shareholder value.”
Baker joined Hillenbrand from Integrated Technologies Engineering Inc., where he was executive vice president with responsibilities over all operating functions. Prior to that, he was tax partner with Arthur Andersen LLP, most recently as partner in charge of the firm’s federal tax practice for the Great Lakes Region. Over his 25-year career at Arthur Andersen, Baker worked primarily with large, multinational public companies.
He earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Indiana University and has achieved his CPA designation.
BOSE MCKINNEY & EVANS
The Indianapolis-based law firm of Bose McKinney & Evans LLP named attorney David Jurkiewicz program chair of the Indianapolis Bar Association, commercial and bankruptcy section.
Jurkiewicz is a member of the firm’s bankruptcy and creditors’ rights group as of counsel. He assists both borrower and creditor clients in connection with collection, foreclosure and bankruptcy proceedings. Prior to joining the firm, Jurkiewicz was an associate with another firm and spent three years as counsel to the Office of the Chapter 13 Trustee, Indianapolis Division.
Also at Bose McKinney & Evans, Partner Alan Becker was appointed by Gov. Joe Kerman as a member of the Indiana Corporate Law Survey Commission. The 14-member commission makes recommendations to the Indiana General Assembly concerning amendments to Indiana laws governing corporations, limited liability corporations, partnerships or other business entities authorized to do business in the state.
Becker is a summa cum laude graduate of Indiana University School of Law. He practices in the areas of business services, securities, financial institutions and mergers and acquisitions. He has been a member of the firm since 1981 and a partner since 1987.
GALYAN’S TRADING CO. INC.
Galyan’s Trading Co. Inc. chairman and CEO Robert Mang has resigned. Edwin Holman, president and chief operating officer, has been elected by the board of directors to succeed Mang as CEO.
Mang resigned for personal reasons and is expected to remain with Galyan’s for up to three months as an employee to facilitate the management transition. The company will immediately begin a search for a new chief merchandising officer, who will assume Mang’s previous responsibilities for marketing and merchandising.
Holman says ,”The transition from Bob to me will be seamless. I am most excited about the future of Galyan’s and our prospects for positioning the company as one of the premier sporting goods retailers. While fiscal 2003 was a difficult year, it helped us address several business issues that will benefit the company going forward. I look forward to working with our management team and our associates to realize mutual success in achieving the company’s goals.”
Prior to joining Galyan’s in September 2003, Holman was most recently the president and chief operating officer of Bloomingdale’s, a division of Federated Department Stores, a position he held for three years.
