National City names Clark
president of Northern Ohio

National City Corp. has named Paul G. Clark to the newly created position of president for Northern Ohio, reporting to Phil Rice, president and CEO for the state of Ohio.

Clark’s position enhances National City’s commitment to Cleveland and Northern Ohio by positioning an additional senior leader in the region. He will focus on business development and representing National City in the Cleveland community.

Most recently, Clark served as executive vice president, Institutional Asset Management, and chairman of National City Investment Management Co.

He began his career with National City Bank in 1976 as a management trainee in the Consumer Finance division, where he was named an officer in 1982. He was promoted to assistant vice president of the National Banking division in 1984 and named vice president in 1985. Clark was promoted to senior vice president of Corporate Banking in 1989 and led the Cleveland area lending operation from 1992-1995.

From 1995 to 1997, Clark served as executive vice president of Retail Banking at National City Bank of Pennsylvania, where he led the integration of Integra Financial Corp. into National City’s Pennsylvania bank. Prior to being appointed to his current position in 2000,

Gupta is an accomplished consulting professional with a successful track record of providing consulting services to leading retailers.

Gupta has been the hands-on project executive during multiple technology transformation projects, including enterprise wide technology engagements involving merchandising, merchandise planning, allocation, finance and operations processes.

Gupta’s former clients include American Greetings, Cole National, Follet Higher Education Group, HomePlace, Jo-Ann Stores, Laura Ashley, Polo Ralph Lauren, Sephora and Vitamin Shoppe.

The promotion reflects significant contributions made by Gupta to the firm and recognizes her performance at new levels.

The Dawson Cos.
Bob Beattie was elected vice president and marketing manager of the Dawson Cos., serving offices throughout Ohio and Southwest Florida. He will head all centralized insurance and brokerage operations for the firm, including marketing of new insurance placements such as commercial property and casualty needs for Dawson’s largest clients and negotiating placements with Dawson underwriters.

Beattie has been a Dawson executive for two-and-a-half years, with previous responsibilities as mergers and acquisitions practice leader, facilitating corporate venture capital divestiture and acquisitions and reviewing the risk management issues inherent to these responsibilities. He will continue as M&A group leader, overseeing directors and officers liability products, representations and warrants associated with legal transactions, due diligence phases and post placement of property and casualty insurance, employee benefits and other insurance products.

Who’s Who Publishing Co.
Who’s Who Publishing Co. named Constance Harper publisher for its upcoming publication, “Who’s Who in Black Cleveland.” The company publishes an upscale brand of “Who’s Who” directories that highlight the significant and outstanding achievements of African Americans in Atlanta, Cincinnati, Columbus, Detroit, Indianapolis and St. Louis.

Harper is a product of the Cleveland Public School system, where she began her career in journalism. At Central State University, she served as editor of the college paper and yearbook. She was selected as one of two journalists to complete a fellowship of urban studies at the University of Chicago. She returned to Cleveland to direct the Women’s Committee for Mayor Carl Stokes re-election, and currently serves as executive vice president and editor of the Call & Post newspapers.

McCarthy, Lebit, Crystal & Liffman Co.
Robert Glickman is leaving the Cuyahoga County Court of Common Pleas and will join the law firm of McCarthy, Lebit, Crystal & Liffman Co. as a principal.

Glickman plans to use his judicial experience and his experience as a special prosecutor for Mahoning County and a prosecuting attorney for Cuyahoga County to provide McCarthy Lebit with new insights and perspective. He will concentrate on complex commercial litigation, issues pertaining to malpractice and white-collar crime.

Glickman is a 1992 graduate of Case Western Reserve University School of Law and a 1988 graduate of the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.

Medical Mutual
Steve Wainkroot joined Medical Mutual of Ohio, the state’s oldest and largest health insurance company, as manager of Statewide Operations. Wainkroot will be responsible for overseeing the front-end claims processing area, which includes staff in Cleveland and Toledo.

He comes to Medical Mutual after three years with Progressive Insurance, where he served as assistant manager in the research and development department. Prior to Progressive, he worked as a team leader for the Census Bureau.

He is a graduate of Cleveland State University and a member of the International Chapter of the Society for Human Resource Management.
