New Century Careers is a nonprofit organization formed to provide free training in specified manufacturing skills to qualified applicants.
Who qualifies: Individuals must qualify for training through achievement and aptitude testing.
Training available: Candidates can choose training to prepare them for jobs as entry-level machinists, welders or electronics assemblers.
Who pays: Successful candidates receive training free through support form the Heinz Endowments, the R.K. Mellon Foundation, the Pittsburgh Foundation, manufacturers and state job training funds.
How long training programs last: Training courses range from seven to 21 weeks.
