Setting the example

Know what makes a good leader. The profile of people we hire
are people who are not looking
for a job. They’re looking for a
passion.

I like to tell everyone I interview that we don’t offer a job
to anyone. If a job is what you
are looking for, we are not the
right place. I describe it that
way because we tend to operate at a pretty quick pace. It’s
very fun and fulfilling, but you
have to sign up for that.

We make sure that the talent
we attract, that’s what they
want, that’s what their current
life situation will support, and
we give them that passion and
they bring that energy to the
table. But as people join us,
they want to grow their professional careers. That’s important
to them.

We do everything we can to
afford them professional
development, and recognition is important, as well.
Recognition comes in a variety of forms. Different roles
tend to weight those things
differently.

Good leaders have good
judgment and make decisions
that are aligned with our core
values. They empower the
people around them, they
know how to attract and
retain talent. They lead by
example; they are risk-takers.
We are a high-growth company, so leaders here have to be
risk-takers — and not just
risk-takers but risk-takers
who are resilient because we
don’t call every shot right the
first time.
