Setting the pace

When you mention the word “pacesetter,” the idea of leadership
naturally comes to mind.

True organizational leaders set the pace for an organization or
capital idea and have the innate ability to get others to fall into step
with them to execute a shared vision.

The 2007 Smart Business Pacesetters are no different. This group
of nine regional leaders exemplifies what it means to be a leader, setting the pace not just for their individual organizations but for the
greater Pittsburgh region as a whole.

Each leader has had a significant impact on the community
and are being recognized as finalists in three distinct categories: Emerging — companies with less $30 million in annual
revenue; Mid-market — companies with $30 million to $99 million in annual revenue; and Large — companies with $100 million-plus in annual revenue. From each category, we’ve designated an overall winner whose impact on the community is
unquestionable.

As part of this year’s awards, we are honored to associate the
program with the St. Barnabas CEO Leadership Conference,
which celebrates its 21st year with a dynamic theme of “Fast
Forward to the Future.”

Deemed as one of the region’s most prestigious events of its kind,
the annual half-day conference provides top executives with
strategic networking opportunities and unparalleled take-away
information.

As you read the stories about all nine of this year’s Pacesetters,
we challenge you to do one more thing: Consider how your leadership is setting the pace in this region and tell us about it.

Who knows, maybe next year, we’ll be sharing your story with
our readers. So, on behalf of Smart Business Pittsburgh and St.
Barnabas, congratulations to the 2007 Pacesetters.
