Strong ties

In 2010, Safelite AutoGlass introduced Associate Volunteer Day, giving its employees a paid day off work to volunteer their services for a full eight-hour day at a charity of their choice. The company promotes and offers Community Days, or days coordinated by teams, stores or markets to volunteer in groups at local charities. These volunteer and community days are just a few of the ways that Safelite encourages its employees to contribute to the communities in which they live.

The company encourages the good works of its employees and a culture of generosity by maintaining strong ties to community nonprofits and charities. Safelite supports dozens of Ohio nonprofits, charity events and philanthropic organizations through the 501(c)(3) giving arm of the company, the Safelite Charitable Foundation.

The foundation partners with organizations, including Adventures for Wish Kids, Boys and Girls Clubs of Columbus, Creative Living, Central Ohio NFL Alumni Charity Golf Tournament, Komen Columbus Race for the Cure and United Way of Central Ohio. Safelite has provided sponsorships, funding, volunteer support and resources for these organizations for more than 10 years. The company has even longer associations with the American Red Cross and Mid-Ohio Food Bank.

Tom Feeney, Safelite’s president and CEO since 2008, has worked for the company for more than 20 years, helping cultivate and build a culture of giving and generosity. Feeney is deeply involved in many of the company’s philanthropic efforts and was also one of the Safelite executives who volunteered to get “pied” in the face by an employee to raise money for United Way.

Despite a difficult economy, Safelite maintains its level of giving to United Way, and in recent years, it has matched employee pledges in a time when many companies were cutting back on spending. In 2009, Safelite was a gold-level sponsor for Susan G. Komen’s Columbus Race for the Cure and had a record number of employees participate in the race. Also, by linking to the Komen Foundation on its website, Safelite makes thousands of customers aware of the importance of breast cancer research.

By offering so many outlets and incentives to promote its company culture of social responsibility and community service, Safelite continues to improve its local communities and the lives of those living in them.
