Want better morale and performance in your work force? Improve your employees’ work skills.
That seems almost too obvious to mention, but not everyone, according to a survey, is convinced enough to follow through on training for their employers.
In a recent study by the Southwestern Pennsylvania Industrial Resource Center that surveyed 1,925 small- and mid-sized manufacturers in Southwestern Pennsylvania, 21 percent of the respondents reported they had implemented employee training programs focusing on such basic workplace skills as math, reading, writing, communications, teamwork and problem-solving. Eighty-seven percent indicated that such training improved their firms’ performance,s and 81 percent noted improved employee skills and morale.
Those results should attract at least the attention of the other 79 percent of companies.
