Value proposition

Manufacturing – overall success story

Being in the medical equipment industry for years, first starting as an X-ray technician and moving on to establishing his own companies focused on the specialty, A. Ray Dalton realized hospitals needed daily access to quality medical replacement parts.

Not only were hospitals losing efficiency waiting for replacement pieces to arrive, but technicians were wasting valuable time trying to source parts in a fragmented, unconsolidated market.

Dalton’s entrepreneurial spirit kicked in, once again, and PartsSource Inc. was founded in 2001.

The provider of medical replacement parts has been able to grow by quickly meeting the traditional needs of clients and expanding its services into eBusiness solutions to provide value proposition to new clients.

One of its clients, the Cleveland Clinic, estimates manpower savings is upward of one hour per order for each technician when using PartsSource.

PartsSource’s ability to deliver and its reputation in the market have put the company on a path of continued growth. Less than a decade after Dalton founded the Aurora-based company, PartsSource has provided replacement parts to more than 10,000 technicians servicing more than 50 percent of the 5,800 hospitals in the United States. The company now sources more than 1,000 parts a day.

In the last four years, the growth has led to an increase in sales of 197 percent or nearly $60 million. During the same period, PartsSource has increased its number of employees by 118 percent. Today, it has a staff of about 220.

The growth has led to a direct contribution to the economy of Northeast Ohio during the biggest economic downturn in decades.

Dalton has grown PartsSource to include a culture of giving back to the community. In fact, community is one of the company’s five corporate values.

While PartsSource works with local organizations in need, its philanthropic reach extends far beyond the region. Working with hospitals on a daily basis, PartsSource acquires a considerable amount of unwanted, fully operational medical equipment deemed outdated by U.S. standards. The company finds, packs and ships abandoned equipment to Third World or medically challenged countries.

Dalton fully believes a healthy corporate environment and a successful company must include community outreach.
