Born: I have lived in 30 different addresses in my life. I was born in Jonesboro, Ark., and lived there for a whopping six months. I consider Florida home. I was raised in Florida and went to high school in Neptune Beach, which is near Jacksonville. I love the ocean and consider myself a real ocean person and think best when I’m near water especially saltwater.
Education: Bachelor of arts degree, economics, University of Georgia; MBA, marketing, Mercer University
What was your first job?
My first job was cutting grass in the neighborhood. I was 12. My first real job was selling the local newspaper door to door. My first bona fide job, which I still love, was bagboy at Winn-Dixie at age 15. I worked at Winn-Dixie for many years for many departments. To this day, I love the supermarket industry.
What did you want to be when you grew up?
A professional baseball player and a marine scientist; I thought I could probably do both. My love was baseball. I was a one-sport guy growing up. I was a shortstop, and I thought for sure I was going to play for the New York Yankees. Then I loved marine science, and my goal was to be a marine scientist. That’s one of the reasons I think of business as a science and an art, I think.
What’s your most prized baseball card?
The ’67 Mantle
What’s your favorite Coke product?
My favorite Coca-Cola product is Coke Zero. I love it because it tastes great, and it’s got the same great taste as Coke but no calories.
What’s your favorite McDonald’s product?
Filet-O-Fish. Isn’t that bizarre? But I’ve always loved the Filet-O-Fish and, of course, their french fries.
