Born: McAllen, Texas, but I grew up in the metropolis of Edcouch, Texas

Education: Bachelor’s degree in business administration, Texas Tech University

What’s the best advice you’ve ever received?

Keep your eyes open — it is amazing what you can learn by watching others.

Whom do you admire most and why?

My parents. They taught me about faith, family and hard work.

What was your first job ever?

Working for my father, who was a citrus farmer, in the tree nursery and driving tractor at the age of 14.  Then, for six summers, I worked for a crop duster in South Texas.  Prior to 14, I had short stints delivering milk, paper routes, mowing yards, serving as the custodian at our church and the like. The main thing I learned from all of those jobs was that I didn’t want to do that for the rest of my life.

What did you learn from those jobs that still applies today?

Knowing what was expected and accepting responsibility

As a child, what did you want to be when you grew up and why?

Play-by-play announcer for the Dallas Cowboys

What’s your favorite board game and why?

Scrabble, although our family prefers to play ‘Speed Scrabble’ without the board.  We aren’t patient enough for the real game.
