Cleveland Pillar Awards focus on philanthropy Featured

On Dec. 3, 2009, Smart Business and Medical Mutual presented the 2009 Pillar Award for Community Service to a well-deserving group of honorees. The evening’s event not only recognized corporate philanthropy in many forms but also helped raise money to aid charitable organizations around the region.

During the event, Smart Business sat down with some of the event sponsors as well as award winners for a video interview about what philanthropy means to their organization.

Karl Ertle, president and principal, Cleveland Central Catholic High School, who won the CVS Samaritan Award.

David Simpson of the Hospice of the Western Reserve, who was the Rea & Associates Nonprofit Executive of the Year.

Stella Moga-Kennedy, founder, president and CEO of Le Chaperon Rouge, which sponsored the event.

Thomas J. Scanlon, founding and managing partner of Collins & Scanlon LLP, winner of the Nonprofit Board Executive of the Year.

The 2009 Medical Mutual Pillar Awards were presented by Medical Mutual of Ohio and Smart Business and sponsored by Fifth Third Bank, CVS/Caremark, Fairmount Minerals, Le Chaperon Rouge, McDonald Hopkins LLC, Rea & Associates, LaCentre Conference & Banquest Facility and Hughie’s Audio-Visual.
