Community Champion Award goes to PNC’s David Gibson for service to Ohio communities

COLUMBUS ― David Gibson, senior vice president with PNC Financial Services Group, has been awarded the 2010 Community Champion Award from the Finance Fund, a statewide nonprofit financial intermediary.

Finance Fund presents the Community Champion Award annually to individuals who have exhibited extraordinary service to their community. Awardees demonstrate innovation, initiative, commitment and perseverance in directing benefits to the unserved or underserved low-income populations in Ohio.

“The work that has been accomplished by David Gibson and PNC has impacted the lives of hundreds of Ohioans,” said Finance Fund CEO James R. Klein. “Distressed neighborhoods have been revitalized, unemployed individuals have been given jobs and low-income communities have been allocated resources to improve the quality of life. We should be inspired to follow the example Dave has set.”

Gibson’s strong support for assisting low-income communities has fueled the partnership between PNC and Finance Fund. PNC provided aid to numerous New Markets Tax Credit deals and was instrumental in the Freeport Press project by making a separate investment into the Finance Fund Capital Corporation.

PNC’s partnership with Finance Fund resulted in the closing of over $47 million in projects in 2010 alone. At PNC, Gibson serves as a senior vice president and manages execution and oversight of all New Markets Tax Credit Acquisitions activity. He is also a member of the national New Markets Tax Credit Coalition Investor Advisory Committee.

The awards were presented at Finance Fund’s annual reception on May 12.
