I typically use this space to shine a light on a specific topic. But this week I am deviating a bit because I have run across a number of interesting topics that I felt compelled to share. Let me know if you find these as interesting as I did and I will share more links in future issues of Dealmakers.

Elon Musk is disruptive — Love him or hate him, you can’t ignore Elon. “Across industries, Musk and his companies aren’t disrupting the state of play by inventing new things out of whole cloth — they’re taking ideas that failed, and bringing them back to life.”

The Art of Letting Other People Have Your Way: Negotiating Secrets from Chris Voss — This links to a brief overview of a great podcast interview with the former lead international kidnapping negotiator for the FBI. I highly recommend it for insights like this: “If you want to get to your outcome fast, let the other side go first.”

The drug dealers behind many great U.S. fortunes — This is a bit off topic, but it sure is fascinating. “[FDR’s] grandfather Warren Delano had for years skulked around [China’s] Pearl River Delta dealing drugs … The Delanos were not alone. Many of New England’s great families made their fortunes dealing drugs in China.”
