When I was young, I learned to listen first before you do anything else.
What traits or skills are essential for a business leader?
The first thing you must have is integrity, then you must also have a human sense and understand what your co-workers are dealing with. Those are the key things.
What is your definition of success?
Leading the company to growth somehow. On one side, the hard side is the financial success, the other, soft side is creating a great reputation for the company, one that is accepted by our customers. Also, to be accepted as a worldwide technology leader.
Braun on listening to customers: Every customer wants to do different things with our lasers and use it maybe in a different way. At the end of the day, the customer has to integrate his laser into his production line in his plant, and if you don’t meet his expectations, you won’t be able to keep selling to him.
Fast facts about ROFIN-SINAR: Formed in Hamburg, Germany, as Sinar Laser Systems in 1975. After acquiring British company Rofin in 1978, the company changed its name to ROFIN-SINAR. In 1987, ROFIN-SINAR was purchased by Siemens AG, which spun the company off in 1996 at the time of its IPO. ROFIN-SINAR is now headquartered in Plymouth, Mich.
