What is the greatest business challenge you’ve faced, and how did you overcome it?
When I joined Domino’s Pizza, it was a brand new industry and business model for me. I had to learn, and fast. I also needed to expand and rebuild the leadership team, as well as transform the culture to one that was more consistent with my leadership philosophy.
I dealt with the challenges by listening, learning, working hard and setting the proper tone for change and higher expectations throughout the organization.
Whom do you admire most in business?
There are many people I have met or worked with over the course of my career who I respect very much. However, I most admire my parents for the way they brought me up to understand the importance of working hard and doing things the right way, even if it isn’t the easy way.
What are some universal truths you have learned about leading a business?
Find out how people want to be treated, and treat them that way. You must take great care of customers.
Always have specific, measurable objectives for your business. Create a positive work environment that promotes communication.
