What was your first job?

Construction, I started working as a sixth-grader. I did some carpentry, small-town remodeling working for my grandfather for 50 cents an hour. It taught me that hard work is a good thing. If you work hard, you can measure some progress.

Whom do you admire most in business and why?

People who have a strong personal value set and let that drive their business. I admire people who do things the right way. Unfortunately, we have too many people who are not modeling business the right way. The fellow I followed is a great model for solid values and approach to life and doing business the right way. He had great integrity and always looked to do the right thing. I admire folks like that.

What is the first thing on your bucket list?

I still would like to travel. I’ve got some places I’d like to fish. I’d like to see Australia. More than that, I’d like to find some more time for my grandchildren.
