What is the best business advice you have ever received?
Focus on making your boss successful; this will make you successful.
Whom do you admire most in business and why?
Jack Welch [because] he defined how to build the most successful and functional modern management culture when he ran General Electric.
Tognoni on asking questions: One of the things I try to educate people on is that it’s not that hard to learn some of the basics of finance to actually know to ask good questions about your company to whoever you work for.
If your boss can’t answer that, you need to have him go find the answer, and you probably educate him. That’s part of what we do. You should know if you are working for a company that is continually losing money.
If it’s continually losing money, it’s not going to be very long before you’re going to lose your job. That’s just a fact of life, and a lot of people go into a job and they do an interview for a company and they go to work for that company and they never once ask to look at the financials.
If you go into that situation and you haven’t even done that kind of basic homework and the company then lays you off, you kind of deserve the bad situation you get because you didn’t do some basic research.
