Bill Demas has a keen eye for identifying new industries and trends and isn’t afraid to take entrepreneurial risks. He joined Turn Inc., his third start-up company, in 2007 and after a year, applied these skills as president and CEO of the Redwood City, Calif.-based company. Demas led Turn’s shift from what was primarily a service-driven advertisement organization to an initial leader in applying demand-side platforms to real-time bidding on advertisements.
Today, the company is well-positioned as a cloud software platform for marketers and advertising agencies, providing scalable software on demand that powers campaigns for some of the world’s largest advertisers. The ?rm boasts a client portfolio that includes 80 of the Fortune 200 — such as Target, Amazon, AT&T and Progressive Insurance, as well as three of the top ?ve worldwide advertising agency holding companies, OMG, IPG and GroupM.
The SaaS platform evaluates 80 to 90 percent of all global online ad impressions, representing 20 billion impressions daily. Through its algorithms and platform, the company makes 500,000 decisions per second and every impression is analyzed by 2,000 factors to decide if an ad should be placed. Demas continues to think strategically to grow Turn — he’s currently aiming to broaden the company’s platform to new advertising channels such as social media, with IPTV, digital radio and location-based services looming for 2013.
In addition to redeveloping and participating in transforming Turn’s product, Demas has led Turn’s expansion, with plans to grow beyond North America and Europe into both Asia and South America by the end of 2012.
