What’s your definition of success?
For the company to not just survive but to thrive in this ever-changing business and economy that is success.
What’s your favorite part of your job?
That every day brings a new challenge and an opportunity for a solution to that challenge.
What’s the best business advice you’ve ever received?
Whether interacting with boards of directors, colleagues, staff, politicians or the public, to always be prepared for the 1,000 questions they may never ask but if they do, you’re ready.
If you weren’t in your current position, what might you be doing instead?
Either a university professor or a litigator
Your workday is off to a bad start. How do you turn it around?
I would refocus on our mission and the thousands of patients and families we serve daily and our exceptional people who provide extraordinary care 24-7.
If MemorialCare had a theme song, what would it be?
I’d nominate one of my favorite all-time songs: ‘Right Now’ by Van Halen. The song is apropos. It’s very upbeat and the lyrics are generally applicable:
‘Don’t want to wait till tomorrow
Why put it off another day?
One by one, little problems
Build up and stand in our way.
One step ahead, one step behind it
Now got to run to get even
Make future plans, I’ll dream about yesterday, hey
Come on, turn, turn this thing around.’
