Doing it all

Fairmount Minerals Sustainable Bausiness Practices Award

James P. Carulas wants it all when he hires someone to work at Meaden & Moore. The company’s CEO wants his new hires’ financial expertise so the accounting firm can provide great service to its clients.

He wants their ingenuity to help clients who are going through a difficult situation to be able to find their way to a positive outcome. And he also wants their sense of civic duty to be given a chance to shine through and be used to help those who are struggling along life’s path.

“We will be constructive, dedicated and active members of the communities where we work and live,” states one of the company’s guiding principles.

When employees are given the chance to make a difference both in the office and out in the community that they live and work, it creates a spirit that can make a lot of good things happen.

The firm raised nearly $7,500 for this year’s United Way and Community Shares campaign. When you combine that with Meaden & Moore’s other contributions, the firm has donated more than $60,000 to various charities in the region.

To drive home the importance of this community service effort, Meaden & Moore gives each employee a paid day off to help a charity of his or her choice. Some of the programs that have received support are posted on the Web site, giving people a chance to see what their peers in the company are doing.

Meaden & Moore also provides service to more than 60 nonprofit organizations in the community. The company provides its service at deeply discounted rates to ensure that the money that is raised by worthy charities is both safe and is being used for the purpose in which it was given.

As a result of all of these efforts, the firm is able to maintain a vibrant workplace culture. It allows another point of the firm’s guiding principles to always ring true.

“At Meaden & Moore, the staff members are the firm,” states the principle on commitment to staff. “We will create an environment that nurtures creativity, innovation and teamwork.”
