Donaghue named YMCA president, CEO

A. Frank Donaghue was named president and CEO of YMCA of Philadelphia & Vicinity.

He previously was president and CEO of the Los Angeles-based Arnold Schwarzenegger Youth Foundation, After School All-Stars, where he was charged with building a nationally recognized board, creating excellence in 15 chapters across the nation and raising funds. He increased the budget from $11 million to $23 million and the number of children served from 28,000 to 58,000.

Prior to that, he was CEO of the American Red Cross, Southeastern Pennsylvania Chapter. While there, he increased revenue by more than 300 percent and built a $17 million organization with 150 employees and thousands of volunteers. He developed Statewide Extended Care and the Philadelphia Red Cross House, the first transitional care facility for low-income victims of disaster recovery.

Donaghue also was national spokesperson for the American Red Cross for numerous disasters worldwide, including at Ground Zero in New York City during the days following the Sept. 11 attacks.

He also serves on the boards of Kidz Online International and Spark the Wave, a national youth organization, and was an adviser to Gov. Edward Rendell’s Homeland Security Transition Team.

He is an alumnus of the University of Pennsylvania and Seton Hall University, and has studied at Harvard Business School and the John F. Kennedy School of Government.

VWR INTERNATIONAL
VWR International appointed George Van Kula senior vice president, general counsel and secretary.

He joins the company from Honeywell International Inc., where he worked as vice president and general counsel, Europe, Middle East and Africa. Prior to joining Honeywell, he with Latham & Watkins in its Los Angeles and London offices.

GSI COMMERCE INC.
Andrea M. Weiss and Michael J. Donahue were nominated to the board of directors for GSI Commerce Inc.

Weiss is president and CEO of Retail Consulting Inc., which she has owned and operated since 2002. She has more than 25 years of experience working in executive and senior management retail positions.

Donahue is one of the founders of KPMG Consulting and was with BearingPoint Inc. and KPMG LLP for more than 20 years as an executive.

RMD ENTERTAINMENT GROUP
RMD Entertainment Group hired Kevin Hill as its international liaison. He is responsible for all artist releases overseas, including promotion and marketing, as well as all communication with RMD’s key European distributor.

He previously worked as a promotions executive with Bad Boy Worldwide Entertainment Group.

THE PMA INSURANCE GROUP
The PMA Insurance Group promoted Elaine Manchon to assistant vice president, commercial markets underwriting.

She joined the company in 1993, and for the past eight years has been the underwriting manager for PMA’s Philadelphia office.

She earned a bachelor of arts degree in economics from the University of Notre Dame and began her insurance underwriting career in 1987 with CIGNA Property & Casualty.

ALLIANCE BANK
Alliance Bank hired Steve Gualberti as senior vice president commercial lending.

He joins the company from First Penn Bank, where he was vice president and senior construction lender. He has more than 28 years of experience in banking and specializes in construction and commercial real estate lending.

RADIAN GUARANTY INC.
Radian Guaranty Inc. named William D. Kaiser senior vice president, operations.

He brings more than 20 years of mortgage banking experience to Radian and most recently worked as vice president, business solutions, for Option One Mortgage. He also has held leadership roles with American Business Financial Services, Advanta Corp. and Arthur Andersen.

He earned a bachelor of science degree from Boston University.

NCO GROUP INC.
NCO Group Inc. promoted John R. Schwab to executive vice president and named him chief financial officer. He previously worked as the company’s senior vice president and chief accounting officer.

Steven L. Winokur was promoted to executive vice president and chief operating officer, shared services. He previously was the company’s CFO.

Albert Zezulinksi assumed the position of executive vice president of global portfolio operations. He has been with the company since 2000 and has been responsible for various corporate and government affairs.

VIROPHARMA INC.
ViroPharma Inc. appointed Howard H. Pien to its board of directors.

He is former CEO and chairman of the board of Chiron Corp. and brings more than 25 years of pharmaceutical and biotechnology industry experience.

LANNETT CO. INC.
Lannett Co. Inc. appointed Jeffrey K. Farber a board member.

He has worked as the company’s secretary since 2003. He is president of Auburn Pharmaceutical, which he founded 13 years ago.
