Continuing the Hyland legacy
Each year, Medical Mutual recognizes a leader in honor of the late Kent Clapp, former CEO of Medical Mutual, who lost his life well before his time.  In memoriam of Clapp, one top executive of a for-profit organization will be recognized for his individual passion toward philanthropy. This year, the Kent Clapp CEO Leadership Award goes to Bill Priemer, CEO of Hyland, creator of OnBase.
As CEO, Priemer has continued the legacy of the Hyland family with both a personal involvement in philanthropy and a lead-by-example approach.
A Cleveland native and graduate of St. Ignatius High School, Priemer has been with Hyland since 1997. He became CEO in 2013 when A.J. Hyland stepped down from the post to concentrate on philanthropic endeavors.
Priemer’s personal involvement includes serving on the board of BVU: The Center for Nonprofit Excellence. Under his leadership, Hyland’s approach to community engagement is to empower employees to have an impact in the communities where they live and work.
Hyland supports nonprofit programs that (1) actively engage employees in their individual charitable interests, (2) facilitate company-wide volunteer and charity events and (3) promote and develop youth education in technology.
Employees may take up to 12 hours of paid time off to volunteer at nonprofits of their choice.
Hyland also encourages volunteerism by supporting employees to conduct a day of service. These one-day volunteer projects make an impact on a nonprofit agency while promoting teambuilding and boosting morale among employees.
