Marketing expertise

What began as a career marketing coupons for Robert Slattery has grown into a successful publishing empire.

In 1978, Valpak was a failing franchise in Cincinnati until Slattery and his Miami University roommate purchased the franchise and took it from worst in the country to the fourth most profitable within a year and a half. Slattery went from business to business in Hamilton and Fairfield, while his partner concentrated on Beechmont.

The pair quickly became the Golden Boys of Valpak, and by 1980, they had expanded across the Midwest. With their success, they began thinking of other new and improved marketing operations and founded Reach Magazine in 1983.

In addition to the marketing business, Slattery, founder and president of ReachUSA, has succeeded with manufacturing, retail and service endeavors. Most notable in the manufacturing and retail arena is his founding of Perimeter Technologies, a manufacturer and installer of Pet Stop electronic fencing systems, which holds several key patents in the industry. Pet Stop has expanded into more than 100 markets.

In the service industry, Slattery owns a successful full-service travel agency, Cruise World Travel/Cruise 800.

Future growth of Slattery’s operations is focused on the publication side of his business. Cincinnati-based ReachUSA sells mass targeted consumer magazines, including In-Touch, Hometown Gold and Hacks Sports Magazine. He sees his next big things as the publications House Trends, an upscale home and garden magazine, and In-Touch, which is focused on a female audience that has strong purchasing in their households.

His most recent endeavor is the formation of Reach Event Marketing, a culmination of his marketing expertise coupled with a charitable mission.

Charities in the Cincinnati community have benefited from Reach Event Marketing’s events, including the Association of Volleyball Professionals and the Prep Classic high school football competitions.
