Morgan Stanley’s Carla Harris to speak at WELD event

Join Women for Economic and Leadership Development at its annual Keynote event as it launches WELD’s programming theme for 2015: Expect to Win: The Leader Within.
The event — held from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, March 19, at the Hilton Downtown Columbus — will feature speaker Carla Harris, a vice chairman and managing director in the Institutional Advisory Group at Morgan Stanley Investment Management.
WELD’s programs for the year have been structured around Harris’ book “Expect to Win.”
Harris has been a force on Wall Street for more than 20 years. At Morgan Stanley, she provides investment advice to corporations, public pension plans, foundations and endowments as well as leading the emerging managers platform.
Her passion lies in helping others. As Harris says, “we are blessed, so that we can be a blessing to others.”
While climbing the corporate ladder, Harris had her own personal missteps amidst numerous victories. She vowed that when she reached senior management and people came to her for advice, she would provide them with the tools, strategies and pearls of wisdom honed by her own experience.
Carla’s Pearls” have become the centerpiece for her many speeches and television appearances. In Expect to Win, Harris shares valuable lessons, including:

  • Authenticity: the power is you.
  • The 90-Day rule.
  • Perception is the co-pilot to reality.
  • The mentor, the sponsor, the adviser: having them all.
  • Leverage your voice.
  • Balance is a necessity: use your passions to achieve it
  • Expect to win: show up with your best self every day.
