Beth E. Mooney has been chosen to succeed Henry L. Meyer III at the helm of KeyCorp upon his retirement on May 1. The board appointed her president, chief operating officer and board member until then. With her appointment in May, Mooney will become the first woman CEO of a top 20 U.S. bank.
Mooney has led Key’s Community Bank, which includes retail banking, business banking, commercial middle-market banking, wealth management, private banking, key investment services and KeyBank mortgage, since 2006. The Community Bank operates more than 1,000 branches and more than 1,500 ATMs across 14 states, as well as three Key Call Centers.
Prior to joining Key in April 2006, Mooney was chief financial officer of AmSouth Bancorp, which is now Regions Financial Corp. She held line management positions at major financial services companies, including Citicorp Real Estate Inc., Hall Financial Group, Republic Bank in Texas, AmSouth Bancorp and Bank One Corp., where she eventually became president of the firm’s Ohio operations.
John Grabner, president and CEO of Cardinal Fastener in Bedford Heights, has been named the American Wind Energy Association’s 2010 Supplier of the Year. Following President Barack Obama’s visit to Cardinal Fastener in January 2009, Grabner took a strong role in spreading the word about jobs created in the U.S. from the U.S. wind industry. At Cardinal Fastener, all purchased steel is mined and melted in the U.S. and all secondary processes, including outside vendors/suppliers, are located in Ohio and Indiana.
His meetings with Energy Secretary Steven Chu, Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner, Sen. Nancy Pelosi, Sen. Harry Reid and numerous regional officials have served as a platform for him to share his success story and push for more legislation on wind. By positioning Cardinal Fastener within the wind industry, Grabner increased his staff by 20 percent in 2009.
McDonald Hopkins LLC has hired Todd A. Benni in the intellectual property practice as of counsel. He is based in the firm’s Cleveland and West Palm Beach offices. The Intellectual Property Practice provides counsel, representation and legal opinions on matters ranging from patent, copyright and licensing to trademark and trade secret issues.
Before joining McDonald Hopkins, Benni served as senior managing counsel, IP, advertising and licensing for a leading global supplier of office products and services. He earned a law degree in 1998 from the University of Pittsburgh School of Law and a bachelor of science degree in 1995 from Purdue University.
